Swim Meets

Swim meets are held on Tuesdays with most happening in the morning unless both head coaches agree to a different time frame.  One team will host while the other is the visiting team. With larger teams, meets are dual session, meaning half the meet is swum in the morning and the other half after a short break.  Smaller teams swim a single session meet where all the events are swum until the meet is done.

Depending on the number of swimmers, some meets last 2 hours while others can go up to 4 or 5 hours.  Please take this into consideration the day before the meet.  Make sure your swimmer gets plenty of good food and rest and bring snacks, water and simple entertainment to help pass the time.  Try to leave small preschool children at home if at all possible. Directions to the pool should be provided by your team or you can check the WCSL website.

Some pools are indoor pools while others are outdoor pools. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen for outside meets. Any meet postponements or cancellations will be on the WCSL website. Warmups are usually scheduled for 1-1 1/2 hours prior to the meet.  You must come to warmups to receive critical last minute instruction and preparation.

The coaches must determine their swimming lineups several days before a meet so it is very important to inform a coach if you are not going to be swimming a particular meet well in advance.  Every swimmer is an integral part of a coaches swimming strategy for each meet.  Be considerate of your coach and your teammates by letting them know about vacations, VBS, doctor's appointments, etc.

Good sportsmanship is the hallmark of what WCSL strives to teach all its participants.  Swimmers, officials and parents need to be on their best behavior at a swim meet.  Teams need to be gracious hosts or well behaved guests.  Strict sanctions can be imposed for poor sportsmanship.

Championship Meet

The WCSL Championship Meet is the culmination of the entire season of competition.  It is usually held in mid July at the Indoor Sports Complex in Brentwood over a three day period . Every team in the WCSL competes and it is open to all WCSL swimmers who have swum at least two regular season meets.  There are no time trials or qualifying times to enter the meet.  The WCSL wants every swimmer to have the opportunity to swim in Championship Meet. It is critical, however, that you let your swim coaches know early in the season if your swimmer plans on being at Championship Meet.
